Day 2 – A very full on day today.

An early start was required to make the long journey out to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. It was an incredibly educational but sombre experience – the snow definitely added to the experience. Following the tour, there was a sprint to make the return train and after some lunch we visited Checkpoint Charlie and finished off with a guided tour of the Topography of Terror (a photographic guide documenting the Nazi regime and war crimes). Everyone was knackered by the time we headed for home.

Day 1 we have visited the Soviet War memorial at Treptower Park, The Berlin Bunker and paid a visit to the Brandenburg Gate. Over 20,000 steps clocked today!

The S2 boys are through to the second round of the Scottish Schools Plate after an emphatic 8-2 home win against Fortrose Academy on Tuesday afternoon. Despite going 0-2 down within the 1^st 10 minutes the team pulled together and scored some fantastic goals. Next up they will travel away to either Aberdeen Grammar or Albyn School.

Congratulation to S1 Pupils Jessica Craig-Gould, Benjamin Krop and Lily Krop for their success in the Scottish Junior National Squash Championships in Aberdeen.

Jessica was placed 2nd (silver) in U13 and 3rd (bronze) in U15. Benjamin was 3rd in boys Under 17. Lily was placed 4th in U13 and 5th in Under 15.

Scottish Schools Athletics Championships in Glasgow

What a day of fantastic performances, experiences and learnings for our Culloden Academy athletes last week.
Medal Winners:

• Freya Lonnen – Silver in the U16 60m Hurdles, flying to a brilliant 9.57s!
• Murray Taylor – Bronze in the U18 Pole Vault with an impressive 3.40m! Murray also competed in the 60m Hurdles.

Other Outstanding Performances:

• Mary Black (U14 Shot Put & 60m) – threw a PB of 7.79m in Shot Put!
• Lucas Davidson – through to the U18 60m Final with a SB of 7.40s, and also raced in the U18 200m.
• Freya Lonnen – 4th in the U16 200m Final after her hurdles podium!

Amazing achievement from our three Culloden Academy pupils who became back to back U16 Scottish Cup champions with the Highland Bears this weekend!

Isla, Grace & Olivia all played key roles in a brilliant 70–57 win over Basketball Paisley — and a special shout out to Grace, who was crowned MVP!

A fantastic accomplishment — well done, girls!

What a way to bounce back after Tuesday’s defeat. In exuberant and dramatic fashion, our S1 football team got through to the final of the Charleston Football Festival and won on penalties. Against tough opposition, they battled, as they always do, to secure a second consecutive victory at the event.

The Senior Boys football team are through to the 3^rd round of the Scottish Schools Shield competition after a 4-2 home win against Inverurie Academy. An early goal from Fionn Larnach put Culloden 1-0 up in a first half which saw Culloden control the majority of possession and create some excellent chances to extend their lead. However, it was Inverurie who started the brighter in the 2^nd half and they grabbed an equaliser straight after the restart. Up stepped Oscar Beattie however and his man-of-the match hat-trick in a 35 minute spell saw Culloden go ahead twice before finishing the game off to seal a superb win. Final score, Culloden 4 – 2 Inverurie. The next round sees the team travel away to Kircaldy High on Thursday 19^th February, with the winners then travelling away to face Notre Dame High, in Greenock.

Our sense of belonging as individuals, in our friendships, in school, and in communities plays a vital role in our mental health and wellbeing.

To know our place and really feel part of our environment is a basic human need. This year, Place2Be’s Children’s Mental Health Week aims to support the groups and systems surrounding children. They encourage peers, families, schools and communities to create inclusive and nurturing environments, where children and young people feel they belong and can say “This is My Place”. Over the weekend, Flora Alexander (S2) took part in the Champions of Tomorrow 2026 Ballroom and Latin dancing event in Blackpool.

She competed in the Newcomer category for both Ballroom and Latin and achieved an incredible result of 2nd place in both categories!
