Mission Accomplished

Neill from Blythswood Care came to school last week to collect 55 completed shoe boxes which will now go to the sorting centre before heading to those most in need this Christmas.

Well done to all the classes involved and a special thanks to everyone who donated big or small it wouldn’t have been possible without your generosity.

Early Learning & Childcare

Before a trip to Toddler Group last week, the Early Leaning and Childcare class were making obstacle courses.  This made them think about how being active supports wellbeing, the importance of play and taking risks.  They worked together really well showing excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Music Composition Workshop

Last week, Barry Reid (Croft No. Five and Treacherous Orchestra) discussed his process of writing and recording music to about 150 pupils. We would like to thank Barry for his inspiration, Keith at the Scottish Music Centre for organising the visit, and the pupils from the other eleven schools for travelling to join us.

Halloween Escape Room

The Library Club hosted their first escape room for Halloween last Thursday lunchtime. Pupils were tasked to solve spooktacular cryptic clues to open a series of padlocked boxes. If they were successful, they were rewarded with some sweet treats and could flee from the library! Well done to everyone involved!

Johnston Carmichael Visit

The Higher Accounting class had a visit yesterday from Johnston Carmichael (Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors). Pupils heard about services provided, different careers in accountancy, career pathways and career opportunities.

Thank you to Andrew and Lewis for an interesting and inspiring presentation.

Royal Conservatoire Visit

Twenty-two of our Higher and Advanced Higher students interested in careers within the creative industries attended a community arts workshop from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland facilitated by Developing The Young Workforce

It was a very informative session, increasing our student’s knowledge of pathways into the arts, specifically the new RCS BA course. Huge thank you to Jessie and Louise for visiting.

Lost Property

In recognition of the high quantity of pupil possessions- shoes, coats, bags, earphones that are never claimed we have decided to streamline our system to help get more of it back to pupils. With immediate effect, if your child tells you they have lost something ask them to retrace their steps the next day- anything found will be kept where it was found until the end of the next school day. After that it will be handed into the janitor and your child can complete a simple Google Form (linked below and at the bottom of the sidebar to the right) to let us know what is missing. Every Friday we will download the list, match it to the missing items and return them to the pupil in question.

Crochet Club

The crochet club has been working hard to make hats and scarves to be donated as part of Culloden Academy’s contribution to the 2024 Blythswood Shoe Box Appeal.

A massive thank you to Sophie Jones and Scott MacKay (S6), Mrs Needham, Mrs MacLean and Miss MacLeod for creating these cosy items!
