On Monday 7th September the S3 Health and Food Technology classes took a trip to Wester Hardmuir Farm to explore sustainability and eco-farming.
The pupils were given a tour around the strawberry and raspberry polytunnels and the apple orchards. Will, the Farm owner educated the pupils on the processes involved with growing and looking after the fruits and how they work with the environment to produce and freshest and tastiest fruit they can. This included the use of bees and insects, the use of wild flowers, the creation of boreholes to supply the water, and the use of coconut compost! All of this information helped the pupils understand more about sustainable farming and how we can work with the environment to put food from farm to fork.
