S4 Lab Science Visit – DYW

Developing The Young Workforce

Yesterday our S4 Lab Sciences class enjoyed a visit to the Scottish Water laboratory in Inverness. Gaining experience in a live laboratory is invaluable, bringing the subject to life seeing how chemistry and microbiology are used in a working environment. Thank you so much to Angela, lab team manager for taking the time to show both groups of students around and a few of the testing techniques used to keep our water crystal clear and safe

Developing The Young Workforce

This morning saw the return of My Future Fridays where we were joined by Global Infrastructure. They discussed entry level positions at the company, including apprenticeships and trainee roles, and the opportunities to develop and change pathways. Super exciting time in the Highlands, with the construction industry booming creating lots of opportunities for our students. The session ended with small talk with students keen to find out more.

Huge thank you to Tom and Colin for taking the time to come along to Culloden this morning!

Developing the Young Workforce

On Friday, our Higher Physics students enjoyed an Airbus Defence and Space talk from Culloden Academy alumni, Nick Fuller. He discussed how important transferrable skills are, how there is no wrong path when designing your future and how to become sector agnostic. His talk was filled with encouraging adventure and curiosity.

Thank you to Nick for coming along to share his experiences and what it takes to work within an emerging sector that can take you around world.

Barista Skills

Last week the Barista Skills class completed their ‘takeover’ of Kings Café.  They all successfully served the general public in a professional setting, making a variety of coffees and smoothies.  The class all represented the school brilliantly and it was wonderful to see the students demonstrating the skills they have learnt in a café environment.

Camanachd Shinty Festival

A squad from Culloden Academy are recently back from a fabulous trip to Aviemore where 17 of our pupils joined several schools from all over Scotland to take part in the Camanachd Shinty Festival. It was a wonderful experience for all pupils and staff. Many thanks to the Camanachd Shinty Association, and also the Macdonald Hotel who accommodated a small group of our pupils for the event.

S2 Science Stars

These are last term’s S2 science stars. Pupils were nominated by their science teachers for their hard work, focus, willingness to help and work with others, achievement in assessments and improvement in understanding. Look out for a new set of science stars this summer.
